Apex King can rule for Hollie Doyle at Lingfield

Our opener of the day sees ten go to post over 1m. Alan King’s Gavi Di Gavi looks to be heading the market having won comfortably by four lengths when last seen. The six-year-old has a 5lb penalty to contest with and it looks like he may have had the rub of the green on his last appearance - at around 9/4 he looks opposable.

The key to unlocking the winner of this affair may be to side with horse racing’s sweetheart Hollie Doyle on board APEX KING. David Loughnane’s recruit put in a valiant effort to finish fourth of twelve last time out given that he was up against it from the outset, having given three lengths away due to the late removal of the blindfold. The gelding had to settle three wide off the rail and made eye-catching headway five furlongs out, managing to finish ahead of subsequent 82 rated winner Cityzen Serg.

This is an easier contest and, with the booking of Doyle, Apex King looks serious value at 4/1 to put in a very creditable performance.

SAAHEQ has been knocking on the door on his last two appearances and looks set to put in a bold bid now stepping back down in trip and grade in the 1.45 at Lingfield. At the beginning of last year the seven-year-old was rated 91 and, after two good performances in tougher contests, looks the one to beat.

He was fourth here three days ago and ran with credit, but the performance on his penultimate start raised eyebrows. The Amanda Perrett trained gelding finished just a length behind subsequent Class 3 winner Thegreatestshowman and clocked an impressive time for the final two furlongs.

Callum Hutchinson takes the ride again and at 13/2, he looks good each-way value. Spurofthemoment could be the one to follow him home, having won nicely over course and distance last month.

The 3:20 is a wide open handicap, but with some firms offering four places each-way there could be value to finish in the frame. That value looks to be in MADAME PELTIER and THE GAME IS ON at 6/1 and 14/1 respectively.

The former was disappointing on her last start at Kempton when going off favourite, but she returns to the course and distance of a very good performance on her penultimate start when turning over the odds-on favourite Fame N Fortune. She remains 6lb above that mark, but if reproducing that kind of display should be in the frame here.

The Game Is On was beaten comprehensively at Wolverhampton when last seen, but Adam Kirby returns to the saddle after a promising fourth here in November when finishing off very strongly. He looks up against it but could get involved for an in form Simon Dow.
