Burgess Hill won for the first time in four games with an emphatic 69 run victory at Goring.
Tom Trowbridge won the toss and batted. Opening bowlers Ellis Woolley and Olly Watkins found some movement from the wicket and Jack Simpson (4) was soon on his way after a mis-timed drive to Woolley at mid-on. Trowbridge, who wore a few rising deliveries, was in good form and was hitting some exquisite drives and was joined by Ian Simpson who batted with care as well as hitting some fine cover and off-drives. The pair put on 74 before Simpson (26) was caught at slip by Alex Maynard off the left-arm spin of Aaron Wyatt. Shaun Kevern joined Trowbridge and batted watchfully before being bowled by Wyatt. Wyatt was to become the key bowler for Goring, removing Trowbridge for 68 and slowing the run-rate significantly. Good contributions were made by Joe Maskell, Matt Charman, Ben John and particularly Dan Yates (22) which took Hill to a competitive 186 all out with Wyatt finishing with 7-46.
Alex Maynard was in his usual belligerent mood but having hit three boundaries he nicked a Peter Billinghay delivery that was well caught by John standing up to the stumps. George Willett bowled with pace and removed opener Chris Bird for a duck and was unlucky not to have further success. With Billinghay back to something of his best, Hugh Warmisham was introduced and bowled with great accuracy and control. Wickets fell steadily with good support from Maskell, the Simpsons, John and Willett who all took good catches. Goring were bowled out for 117 with Billinghay taking 4-38, Yates 1-17 and Warmisham 4-17 and will resume next week at Chichester on a hat-trick.
