Plumpton travelled to Burgess Hill at the weekend, looking to break the home sides unbeaten run of 25 home games, stretching back to 2012. Both sides played confident rugby and in the opening 20 minutes looked to be an even contest. Plumpton however scored after 25 minutes, a series of rucks on the Burgess Hill line led to Rodney Black crashing over the line.

With the score only 5-0 at half time, the game was still anybody’s. however early in the 2nd half Fly-Half Rhys Beale scored a solo try, converted by Brother Lewis to put Plumpton in the driving seat. Ten minutes later, Lewis slotted a penalty from the half-way line to extent the lead to 15 pints. From this point on Plumpton controlled the game, making a number of substitutions as they welcomed new players Stephen Rusling, Zac Robins and Jasper Elwes to the pitch.

This didn’t halt Plumpton’s now dominant play, as five minutes later a try by Steve Blake put Plumpton 20 points ahead. Burgess Hill never gave up and at the final whistle the Burgess Hill captain sneaked over for a converted try.

Man of the Match Rory Loftus, who’s energy around the pitch was not matched throughout the game.

This weekend Plumpton host Hastings & Bexhill at the racecourse, k.o 3pm.
