Rewarding trip to Littlehampton for Burgess Hill Runners

Last Wednesday (16th) evening saw yet another mass of BHR members make a rewarding trip to Littlehampton for the latest West Sussex Fun Run League meeting, the 5 mile ‘Beach Run’ organised by Arunners along the seafront and which includes some energy sapping sections on the shingle at low tide.

The Club finished an excellent 4th on the night of the 17 member clubs, with its 38 entrants securing 82 points from a maximum 85. Individually, Paul Sargent ran a cracking race, tracking the leader throughout before choosing his moment to take the lead and winning overall in 28 mins 58 seconds.

On the same evening, Darryl Webb raced in the Brighton Phoenix 10k event and finished in a superb 37.07 and 27th place in a very high quality field. The weekend was a relatively quite one for racing, but there were many BHR members present at the Clair Park parkrun in Haywards heath on Saturday morning where fancy dress was the order of the day to celebrate the events hugely successful first year.

On Sunday, Jon and Jan Lavis travelled to Buckinghamshire for the Chiltern Challenge 50km ultrarunning event.

In the sultry weather and over the very hilly offroad route, Jan finished in a superb 6hrs 42 mins and Jon also did well, finishing in 9hrs 28 mins in what he described as the hardest event he’d ever done.
