The mostly off road course of just under 10km taxed the runners with a steep hill to run up and back down.

With the heat wave unrelenting on Wednesday evening the club were pleased with their total score, finishing 5th on the night and retaining 3rd place in the league overall. Gary Woolven scored maximum points again as he led the club home in a time of 41:09. He was followed by James Sorbie (43:18) and Glyn Merritt (46:08). The ladies also scored well and registering just short of maximum points were Annette Maynard (52:29), Fay Roberts (53:04) and Gayle Tyler (54:53).

On Saturday the club’s very own Benny Coxhill was race director for the annual St Lawrence Fair fun runs which form part of the popular village fair in Hurstpierpoint.

Yet again runners were subjected to a big hill in roasting hot conditions but club members James Sorbie (who went on to win the race), Andy Sayers, Catherine Kempton and Kim Gow weren’t put off and did their bit to represent the club in the 5 mile event over Wolstonbury Hill.

In contrasting conditions on Sunday, the Bewl 15 started amidst torrential rain creating slippery conditions for the athletes. The 15 mile mixed terrain course around the beautiful Bewl Water reservoir seemed to tax even the fittest of runners who came home caked in mud and looking pleased to have finished.

Jon Boxall was the first BHR to claim his goody bag, gold medal and free beer with a time of 1:48:54. Claire Tucknott was next with a time of 2:34:08 followed by Jon Lavis (3:08:37) and Hannah Watkins (3:10:20).
