Central Sussex College rugby team’s triumph at RFU tournament

A new chapter for Central Sussex College’s Rugby team began last month as a squad of ten students from the Sixth Form Haywards Heath travelled to Brighton Rugby Club to compete in the Rugby Football Union (RFU) South East Colleges seven-a-side tournament.

As the team hadn’t spent any time together as a group, the tournament was to lay the foundations for next season’s 15-a-side season. The team did remarkably well, finishing an incredible second overall in the round robin stages, continuing to gain an impressive win against City College Brighton in the semi-finals.

After playing six hard fought back-to-back games, the team made a valiant effort in the final round, securing second place over-all after an intense game against Collyers.

Sports lecturer at the Sixth Form, Ben Dewey commented, “Coming runner-up at the Rugby Football Union Colleges South East Tournament is a fantastic achievement. I’m incredibly proud of the team and looking forward to the next season”.
