Haywards Heath juniors continue to shine

Despite the wettest winter for many years making the pitches frustratingly unplayable at Whitemans Green for a number of weeks, Heath RFC juniors, supported by California Raisins, have been busy training or out and around Sussex and Kent over the last month.

Heath's Under 12s to Under 16s put out seven squads between them each weekend, providing opportunities for all aspiring young rugby players to develop their skills under the watchful eyes of Heath’s many age group coaches.

Already adhering to the requirement that all players have minimum half a match on the pitch, prior to this becoming an RFU requirement this season, means rugby for all is more than just a mantra for the club.

Recognising not just performance on the pitch but also commitment and team spirit, the California Raisins Players of the Month for January have been awarded and those recognised include Alex Cheshire in the Under 16s in recognition of Alex’s incredibly high work rate, level of consistency and his ‘team first’ attitude.

Alex always gives 100% and is a very versatile, respected and valued member of the strong Under 16 squad.

The Under 14s manage two squads each week and this month have recognised Seb Bending as the A squad’s most adaptable player who simply never complains and never misses a tackle as full back.

The coaches believe that Seb is a top choice for player of the month this month and indeed most months.

Josh Philips is recognised for his excellent attitude as a good team player who always gives his all.

Josh was the standout player of the recent B squad win at Pulborough where he was very solid in defence, making a number of great tackles which helped the team keep a clean sheet on the day, but also scored two tries, the second showing his speed with a run from the half way line.

Rory March in the Under 12s receives this month’s California Raisins Player Award in recognition of the improvements he has made to his game this season, quickly establishing himself as a key player in the Under 12 squad.

Rory is always fully committed, his tackle count is consistently high, and he is increasingly effective at the breakdown, showing skills and bravery that will hold him in good stead as he progresses through the age groups at thecClub.
