Heath under 13 compete against a tough Lewes team

At times it felt like David taking on Goliath in a wrestling match as the enormous Lewes pack out-muscled the Haywards Heath Under 13 forwards and dominated the breakdown, with lots of missed first tackles by a fast-learning Heath squad in this friendly encounter.

Playing to their strengths, Lewes put their big forwards into the close channels and scored two well-worked tries. However, when Heath managed to generate quick ball the backs showed their speed and scored from a well-worked opportunity.

The second half was a much closer fought duel with the Heath pack taking the game to Lewes. Putting them under more pressure Heath’s inside centre made a fantastic intercept which put the score within two points. With the Heath forwards being more aggressive at the breakdown and improving their support Heath started to make more inroads into the Lewes twenty two. However, Heath were unable to sustain the intensity and with a couple of lucky breaks in the last five minutes, Lewes managed to score two further tries to emerge winners 27-12.
