Sussex All Blacks host charity tournament

The SAB7s now in its fifth year continues to grow with women’s 7s being added to the men’s competition and family touch competitions this year which made it the Biggest Sevens Competition in Sussex.

The Saturday saw 10 senior mens teams from across the South East of England battle it out in scorching heat.

The runners and riders were, Crash a team of university old boys and some BH contingent, Sea Serpents from Brighton and Hove, Seahorses from Hastings and East Sussex, Pain Train last year’s cup winners, a BH based side, Hippos a Hurst College teachers’ side, Worthing College Old Boys, Los Pelicanos Hermanos, last year’s plate winners who are a Brighton College old boys’ side, Magic Number, a BH 3rd team side, Slippery Otters, a side from Warlingham and former cup winners the White Horse from Southsea.

The teams were split into two pools with the top two from each progressing to the cup and next two the plate.

In the plate the Slippery Otters triumphed beating Worthing College Old Boys in the final.

In the cup two close semi finals saw Seahorses pip Los Pelicanos and White Horse score one more than the Pain Train.

In the final the White Horse showed their class and ran away deserved winners of the 2018 SAB7s.

Day two of the SAB7s saw women’s 7s and family tag competitions.

This was the first year of the women’s competition with three teams entering, Misfits a Pulborough based team, Old Cats from Caterham and Burgess Hill’s Black Widows.

Each team played each other twice in 31 degree heat with Misfits taking the cup after going unbeaten all day.

In the family tag six teams battled it out with names such as Try Babies, Flair Bears, Pups, Old Parents and Animals.

Team Tutu and all girls team won the competition going unbeaten.

All in all it was a fantastic weekend of summer rugby supporting two charities close to the club’s hearts.
