First up was a battle of the Jaguars as the pair went head-to-head competing for the Arlington Championship.

King took a recently-acquired XJ40, while James returned his XJ Coupe that he had previously used at the Banger World Series event at Arlington in August.

Given the bad luck that he had that night in the XJ, James was somewhat tempting fate and on arrival, both drivers were daunted to see in the pits an old foe in current World Champion Jason Jackson, meaning they were in for a tough night.

Things did not start well for either as in the first race King retired early, while James got spun again on the back straight and then was well and truly thumped, so hard, in fact, that it forced a premature end to his night. Maybe lightning does strike twice after all.

The second race was the Championship race, which Jackson won at a canter. But to his credit, King stuck close to the winner all race to finish a highly creditable third.

In the last race, with not much to race for, King went through the motions rather than risking his car and crossed the line in seventh.

A few days later, King made the long trip to Taunton for the Autospeed Unlimited World Championship (like boxing there are multiple versions of the same title). He was seeded as one of four drivers from Spedeworth as more than 40 cars started, including familiar faces such as Jason Jackson and Cornwall’s new multi-champion, Steve Carter.

A lively encounter ensued with local powerhouse team, the DWO, thundering into everyone who got in their way. Sensibly, King stuck to driving the race rather than adopting his naturally offensive tactics and picked his way through to an amazing second place.
