Rugby is a fast developing sport in Majorca with 11 separate Clubs established on the island. Uckfield played matches against El Toro Rugby Club and Ponent Rugby Club, as well as having a day at an adventure park featuring rock climbing, swing bridge crossings and zip wires.

URFC U15’s first match was against the fearsome sounding El Toro Rugby Club, and Uckfield were slow out of the blocks, trailing 14-0 after just 5 minutes. They rallied well though and despite conceding another two tries to the powerful El Toro side, played some excellent team rugby to score four of their own and reach half time trailing 26-22. Uckfield continued to play with great style in the second half against a strong defence and ran in a further five unanswered tries to win 53-26.

The second match involved a visit to the capital Palma and a game against Ponent Rugby Club, whose senior side won the Balearic Islands championship the day before, and this time the Uckfield boys started more quickly against another strong defensive side, scoring early and building a 24-0 lead by half-time. Ponent came back strongly in the second half but Uckfield’s tackling was outstanding and the hosts were unable to score, whilst Uckfield crossed the line one more time for a final score of 31-0.

Both Majorcan teams were wonderful hosts and the teams mixed well after the matches allowing the boys to practice their Spanish! Off the pitch there was plenty of fun on the beach or by the pool and all the tourists enjoyed a memorable visit to Majorca.
