Times were of minimum importance over a tough and hilly 15-mile off road course around the reservoir.

It was the 11th race in the Sussex Grand Prix calendar and was even more demanding than usual because of the glorious weather.

Sinnett was the second Harrier home in 64th place in a field of 609. And she was fifth woman overall and the second Sussex finisher, also earning second place in the 50+ age category.

She said afterwards: “I was delighted with my performance, especially in the burning hot conditions. It was really tough out there but the cake and the pint of Harveys provided afterwards was a great way to celebrate a good finish.”

First Harrier over the line was Tom Mullen in an impressive 13th position. He clocked 1:42.52.

The female success for Harriers continued with Marion Hemsworth achieving second in her 60+ age category.

Richard Sutor was 66th in 1.57:08, Jack Chivers clocked 2.02:27 and Phil Payne was simply pleased to complete in 2.04:10.

Carl Bicknell recorded 2.05:30, Graham Jenner 2.17:31, Marion Hemsworth 2.26:24, Richard Neale 2.31:01, Mark Sykes 2.31:50, Sue Robinson 2.41:58, Lisa Craig 2.43:00, Peter Cobbett 3.00:28 and David Peel 3.15:41.

On Saturday one of the best short off-road fun runs of the summer took place in Hurstpierpoint as part of the annual St Lawrence Fair.

Five miles celebrating the Fairs’ 700th anniversary was an out and back via the challenging Wolstonbury Hill.

Congratulations should go to Harrier Andy Biggs, who came straight from a local Parkrun and did well to compete so strongly in what was a powerful field.

There were perfect conditions last Wednesday as Steyning AC hosted the Brooks Round Hill Romp.
