Mix of exciting artwork at Seaford '˜pop up' exhibition

It has an exciting show on Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13, featuring the varied work of 13 local members plus, in the Undercroft, affordable prints, paintings and cards by the organisers.

Members, who exhibit on a first-come-first-served basis, draw lots for allocated space at the gallery, and the weekend’s exhibition will include work by Allana Hansell, a member of the Newtown Arts Collective who paints in oils and watercolours and enjoys using vibrant, jewel-like colours.

She said: “When using oil I tend to paint ‘impasto’, layering the paint to create textures with a luscious feel to them.

“I like the images and shapes to have movement and depth and hope the viewer may experience an extra level of connection to the painting.”

These ‘pop-up’ shows are mixed, so in complete contrast to Allana’s work is that of Pat Short who started botanical painting after seeing works at Plumpton Agricultural College. She was “fascinated by the meticulously accurate close study of plant life.”

Pat is a member of the Botanical Art Society of Sussex and has exhibited at Brighton Festival. She currently displays and sells signed and numbered limited edition giclée prints.

Visitors can also look forward to seeing the powerful portraits of John Perry and the quirky work (often featuring Seaford beach) of Lisa Taylor plus acrylics from new organiser Sally-Mae Joseph.
