Roy Stannard show switches to Burgess Hill Radio
The Whole Nine Yards hosted by Roy Stannard is moving from Seahaven FM to Burgess Hill Radio on January 31.
When The Whole Nine Yards started to broadcast on November 4 2011, Roy had no idea that the show would still be running nearly ten years later.
649 shows in, the longest continuously running community radio show in Sussex, is moving to Burgess Hill Community Radio, with the first broadcast scheduled for Sunday, January 31 from 3-5pm.
As Roy is resident in Burgess Hill, it made sense to move the show to Church Walk in Burgess Hill where he is already host of the popular Lost Immortals show which follows The Whole Nine Yards at 5pm.
In its ten-year history The Whole Nine Yards has scored some significant milestones:
In 2014 Roy recorded the last broadcast interview with Lord Denis Healey which went out on the May 22 that year when Lord Healey was 96 years young.
On September 4 the same year Roy hosted a two-hour special with Mike Kerr, the guitar and vocals frontman for Royal Blood the night before their debut album entered the charts at number one.
The show’s speciality was to invite leading members of the local community and a range of national figures to select 16 of their favourite pieces of music and to spend two hours talking about these and other topics with Roy in the studio.
With 25 years’ experience in radio prior to launching TW9 (including the foundation of a commercial station in Worthing), Roy is a proud supporter of community radio as an essential ingredient in local news, views and information – as well as having a much wider playlist than comparable commercial stations.
Over 400 individual guests have subsequently been on the show which can all be heard on Roy’s Mixcloud site http://www.mixcloud.com/roystannard
Using this audio storehouse, Roy has selected three highlights from the history of the show along with a number of unique live sessions and unreleased material from musicians who have appeared with him.
Roy said: “It has been a privilege over the past ten years to share a studio with some of the leading figures in our community – and although the studio has been compact the topics and recollections have been far-ranging. I hope that existing listeners will migrate to Burgess Hill Radio 103.8FM or listen online via http://www.burgesshillradio.co.uk/listenlive or via the Radio Player app. Many listeners have made the transition into guests.”
The first show contains extracts of some of the show’s highlights including exclusive interviews with Lord Healey and Mike Kerr, as well as several previously unheard live music performances in the studio.
The Whole Nine Yards + Lost Immortals will run Sundays 3-7pm on Burgess Hill Community Radio.
