You will have seen landscapes that look like photographs, where the artist has attempted to recreate with the pallet what the eye sees.

Andy Waite is different; he sees the landscape, but transforms it into a very contemporary view that makes his work highly sought after.

Now visitors to Horsham District Council’s Horsham Museum & Art Gallery can see recent examples of his work in Light at the Edge of the World: The Art of Andy Waite. This stunning exhibition is being supported by Toovey’s Auctioneers and Valuers, who take pride in encouraging talent as well as sponsoring more historical cultural works.

The exhibition Light at the Edge of the World will enable the public to see more than 20 works by the Arundel-based artist who is making a name for himself throughout the South East and London.

No matter how many times you look at Andy’s pictures you can always see more. You will never tire of seeing his work as the paintings contain multiple layers of artistic expression, drawing inspiration from the landscape and views around him. As Andy’s work was recently described: “Their abstracted quality and emotive spontaneity mean they do not always reveal themselves immediately, asking you to return and discover something not at first seen, offering an ongoing dialogue that only slowly unfolds, while retaining their deepest mystery.”

As visitors enter the exhibition they will be bowled over by the impact of the oil paintings, not only the colours but also the techniques, as together they create a visual delight.

Though very contemporary in approach, creating abstraction out of the landscapes, they also remind the viewer of old masters at their most revolutionary, notably Turner and Constable.

As a recent commentator described the work: “These paintings immerse you in, and are a celebration of, the English landscape and all its elemental power, drawing from the tradition of the Romanticists while expressing an energy that is distinctly contemporary.”

Light at the Edge of the World: The Art of Andy Waite runs from March 7 to April 26 at Horsham District Council’s Horsham Museum & Art Gallery.

The oil paintings are for sale, and thanks to the Own Art Scheme an interest free loan up to £2,000 is available to help purchase Andy’s pictures.

Horsham Museum & Art Gallery is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.

The Museum is also open on Good Friday and Easter Monday, 11am to 4pm. Admission Free.
