Amazing tribute band heads to Lewes with perfected R.E.M. songs

Stipe bring the music of R.E.M. to Lewes Con Club on Friday, July 31.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Amid the neon rush of ’80s music R.E.M. began. They were rock-boned and country-rooted.

“In time they would build a towering back catalogue that would reach from the addictive highs of ‘Shiny Happy People’ down to the reflective darkness of ‘Everybody Hurts’, covering all else in between.”

“As an active, touring band Stipe have taken every opportunity to perfect these songs; perfecting the hits and the gems.

“The R.E.M sound began; guitar driven, unforced and intuitive and moved through the game-changing ‘Losing My Religion’ and then onwards.

“In performance Stipe make R.E.M.’s charismatic music their own.

“R.E.M. was one of the first alternative rock bands, playing large arenas and supporting many political and environmental causes along the way.

“They ended after some 15 albums but not before Michael Stipe, on hearing Stipe perform live, declared ‘these guys are awesome.’ BBC Radio said: ‘My advice to you – if you hear Stipe are playing a gig near you, then drop everything and go and see them.’

“Listen to any R.E.M. song; early days icons such as ‘Radio Free Europe’, full of bass held melody, through to the elegant evasions of ‘Losing My Religion’ and then get out to see Stipe at Lewes Con Club on July 31.”
