Seagulls and sand will be the theme at Horsham Folk Club on Sunday, July 10, when the second instalment of Desert Island Folk features Dick Streeter.
Spokeswoman Caroline Thomas explains: “Inspired by the Roy Plumley classic radio show the format puts the spotlight on some of the club’s long standing members.
“The idea is to find out about their musical history and influences but instead of records, the guest chooses five live acts to perform their favourite folk pieces. To finish, they are invited to choose their luxury and then to sing the song they’d find themselves singing the most on their island.
“The first session proved very popular so we’re now going ahead with the second one with Dick Streeter in the guest spot. Dick is a well-known local musician who is involved in a range of musical styles from Morris Men to rock and roll so it should be an interesting evening. There will also be plenty of time for our usual sing-around for club members and guests.”
Desert Island Folk takes place at 8pm on Sunday, July 10, at Horsham Folk Club, Normandy Centre, Denne Road, Horsham. Tickets cost £2 (members £1, under 21s and students free). They are available on the door from 7.45pm. Call 01403 276273 to find out more.
Caroline added: “Horsham Folk Club has extended its season this year to incorporate the Horsham Festival and will be involved in several of the musical events taking place including Folk in the College with Granny’s Attic and supporting student acts, Collyers College, 7.30pm, on Friday, July 15, and an extended concert in the amphitheatre, Horsham Carfax on Saturday, July 16, from 10am.”
Finishing the festival at 8pm on Sunday, July 17, will be young solo guitarist Sunjay.
