A glorious evening of Opera highlights is the promise Saturday, July 5 at the Ropetackle Centre, Shoreham.

Following a successful Gilbert & Sullivan evening in the spring and last year’s Opera Galas, the singers return to Ropetackle with a selection of favourite arias, duets and ensembles.

Spokesman Douglas Hill said: “The first half of the show will include Brindisi from La Traviata, Soave sia il Vento trio from Cosi fan Tutte, Un Bel Di from Madam Butterfly, well-loved arias from Carmen, the Pearlfishers’ Duet and the famous quartet from Verdi’s Rigoletto.

“The singers, all professionals with careers spanning Glyndebourne, ROH, and English National Opera, will show their versatility in the second half of the show, including songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Franz Lehar, Strauss, Offenbach, Cole Porter and George Gershwin, ending with Stars from Les Miserables and a very special arrangement of Moon River.

“The stars of this special evening are Yvonne Patrick (soprano), Louise Crane (mezzo soprano), Justin Lavender (tenor) and Darren Jones (baritone). As accompaniment, Lesley-Anne Sammons, a pianist who has played in pretty well every Opera House in Europe and some beyond, will amply double for an orchestra .”

Douglas added: “The Ropetackle Centre has built up an enviable reputation for putting on events of the highest quality in the fields of Folk music, jazz, rock and roll, spoken word and comedy, and this evening of top-quality classical music, now the fourth at the Centre represents another area of excellence.”

Yvonne Patrick, soprano and organiser of the eventm said: “We’ve all had a busy year including, for some of us, La Boheme at the Albert Hall, and now we’re all excited about and really looking forward to performing again at the Ropetackle Centre”

Tickets for the performance, which starts at 7.30pm, are available at £15 from the Ropetackle Centre box office on 01273 464440 or online at www.ropetacklecentre.co.uk.
