Sussex artist will inspire Littlehampton painting course

THE work of a Sussex artist hailed by one art historian as “arguably the greatest British watercolourist of the 20th century” will be the inspiration for a one-day painting course in Littlehampton.

Eric Ravilious, an official war artist who lost his life, aged 39, while serving as a captain in the Royal Marines in 1942, will feature in the first Learn from a Watercolour Master day class run by Littlehampton artist Pat Harvey, as part of her new spring series of Saturday watercolour workshops.

The courses start on January 21, with Brush up Your Watercolour Technique, but the Eric Ravilious day is on April 14.

Pat will take students step by step through a recognised artist’s techniques in the Learn from a Watercolour Master courses, beginning with the Sussex wood engraver and watercolourist noted for his evocative portrayals of downland scenes.

Other classes in the series are A Wintry Scene, on February 18, and Paris in Watercolour (part two), on March 24.

The classes are designed for aspiring watercolourists, from beginners to those with more experience, providing an opportunity to brush up on skills in the comfort of Pat’s riverside home.

They run from 10am-4pm and cost £45, with a £10 reduction per class for three or more.

Liquid refreshments are provided.
