Frightening tale of children

In the midst of war, a plane crashes on an uninhabited, tropical island. The only survivors, a group of school children, assemble on the beach and wait to be rescued. By day they inhabit a land without adults - of bright fantastic birds, dark blue seas and endless games. But at night their dreams are haunted by the image of a terrifying beast. The children’s delicate sense of order fades, and their fears are transformed into something deeper and more primitive.

The novel has been adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams.

Director Lucy Betts explains: “Lord of the Flies is essentially a story which explores the battle between good and evil within ourselves. It is a study of human nature, a struggle for survival. This is why it is still relevant today and why it is so widely studied in schools. Interval are working incredibly hard to communicate such dark themes.”

The young actors go under the name Interval. The group has gained a reputation for performing and developing new writing as well as a fresh approach to the classics. Recent successes have included Romeo and Juliet, The BFG and Forever Young.
