VIDEO: Radio 1 DJ helps Millais deliver dazzling fashion show

London Fashion Week may be over, but Millais pupils managed to put on a show with the help of Radio 1 DJ Gemma Cairney.

The ‘Rumble Jumble’ fashion sale and show was organised by pupils in aid of Horsham district Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity (SANDS) and Age UK on Saturday February 23.

The fashion show was hosted by the Radio 1 DJ, a former pupil, who was enjoying her first proper visit since finishing 11 years ago.

“I find it quite overwhelming [coming back to Millais] because I did not really know what I wanted to do.

“I was not the perfect student but I was a memorable one,” she said.
“I always feel I have a responsibility to tell people they can be themselves and it’s not necessarily always easy and there are things to overcome.

“The end result is you can do whatever you want and I do try and show that.”

Shirley Springer, deputy headteacher at Millais, who mentored Gemma during her time at Millais, said she was very proud of what the school’s most famous ex-pupil had gone on to achieve.

The event was organised with help from Chichester College, Ryan’s Disco, Studio 2, Gazelle Creative, and Special Creations.

You can listen to Gemma on Saturdays and Sundays 7-10am on Radio 1.
