Steyning Country Fair is a great day (11am - 3pm) for all the family and will be held again on Monday May 27.

The fair is a fun day organised and run for the people of Steyning and surrounding areas. The theme of the fair is a throw back to the heritage of Steyning and the traditional crafts and farmers livestock and produce are a great attraction.

This year there will be music and dancing with many acts to entertain the young and old alike. Not forgetting the dog show which is attended by many local dog owners and always proves to be great fun.

Turn back the clock and experience the atmosphere of Steyning as an old market town, complete with livestock, rural crafts, stalls and demonstrations, together with clowns, jugglers, puppets, music and other entertainment for all the family.

SEVERAL gardens are now opened. Here are the major ones.

Nymans house and gardens - Handcross.

Set in the High Weald with splendid views, the garden is a series of experimental designs with spectacular planting and beauty all year. The house, transformed into a Gothic mansion in the 1920s, burnt down shortly after, leaving romantic ruins. The remaining rooms are unexpectedly charming, filled with flowers from the garden as Anne Messel, Countess of Rosse had them. Ancient woods beyond the garden dip into the valley, with walks among avenues, wild flowers, the lake and cascades.

High Beeches Garden - Handcross.

27 acres of magnificent woodland and water gardens, full of rare, exotic and unusual plants; RHS award winning plants, a botanical treasure trove, and one of the great gardens of Sussex.

Borde Hill - Ardingly.Borde Hill Garden is nestled in 200 acres of English Heritage listed Sussex parkland and woodland, with wonderful views across the Sussex Weald and the magnificent Ouse Valley. Borde Hill Garden is home to a nationally important collection of rare shrubs, champion trees and exotic plants.

Wakehurst Place - Ardingly

Bluebell Railway Railway - Sheffield Park

The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line running for 11 mi along the border between East and West Sussex, England. It uses steam trains which operate between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, with intermediate stations at Horsted Keynes & Kingscote.

For fantastic Bank Holiday value It’s Magic organizers are gearing up to another magical day of music to play in the Broadway area of Haywards Heath.

Broadway Sound takes place on Sunday, May 26, and offers a ‘day out’ for only £7 a ticket (purchased in advance), children 11 and under are free.

Visitors on arrival are given a wristband allowing them to come and go during the day.

There will be two stages, one at each end of the road, with 16 performances including jazz, blues, rock, gospel songs, pop, latin and songs from the shows – music for all, played back to back from 11am until 10pm.

To create the magical street party atmosphere the Broadway area is closed to traffic with additional seating areas spilling out into the road from the cafes, bars and restaurants.

At this year’s event, among the 16 acts, there is the band The Soundcasters formed in early 2008 playing all their own music.

Their sound is is influenced by such bands as The Beatles, The Band, The Animals and newer bands like Arctic Monkeys, where they have developed their ’60s Indie style from.

Burning Shapes have already hit the media with their excellent debut album ‘These Things Happen’ and already have been finding their way onto BBC Radio and with one song picked up for the soundtrack to the £2m British feature film Lucid coming out next year.

Towards the end of the day you will need to prepare to dance, you won’t have time to sit down.

The Broadway will be sizzling as Soul Sisters a group of highly experienced, session professionsals who have performed for Richard Branson will be rocking The Broadway.

The evening will come to a climax with The Supersonic ’70s Show – a blast from the past performing the biggest classic hits from the 70s.

As a local resident said: “This is one of the best attraction this town has offered for many years’. Haywards Heath is full of life, whatever your taste in music we are sure to have something for you, come and join in – you will be compelled to dance in the street”

The Horsham Painting Group is holding its spring exhibition and sale at the Quaker Meeting House, Worthing Road on Saturday, May 25 between 10am and 4pm.

Garden opening for charity. The garden of 104b Mill Rd, Burgess Hill, will be open to the public from 2-5pm. £2 adults, children free. All proceeds to St Peter & St James Hospice. Tea and cakes, plant stall. This is the garden of Mill Cottage (1805), dwelling of the miller who ran St John’s Windmill. BARNS GREEN Village Sports and Social club are holding a charity Family Fun Day on the village green. 2pm until 6pm. Local attractions, live music, stalls and more. Everyone welcome.

Catstravaganza. Cats Protection Horsham & District Branch will be holding this popular event at North Heath Hall, St Marks Lane, Horsham from 2pm to 4pm. On sale will be home-made cakes, bric-a-brac, books & toys etc. CP gifts & goodies. We also have an information table where you can pick up free leaflets on cat care.
