The former anorexic from Haywards Heath wants to share her story in the hope that her own, harrowing experience will persuade others on the edge of developing an eating disorder to hold back from falling into an abyss of physical and mental torture.

At the height of her illness her weight dropped to 33.3 kilogrammes or just over five stone; her life was hanging by a thread and she needed treatment in intensive care.

In a difficult journey back to normality, she was finally discharged from mental health care three years ago after seven years of treatment and eight admissions.

At the height of her illness, the young woman who spoke to the Middy developed hypothermia, her blood sugars were dangerously low and she developed an irregular heart-beat, which threatened her life.

You can read about her long road to recovery, which included five months on a specialist heart ward, in this week’s Mid Sussex Times, which was published on Thursday, February 20.
