Littlehampton course offers help to those with debilitating illness

PEOPLE with ME are being encouraged to take part in a course at Littlehampton, giving information and advice about living with the illness.

The course is being run by reMEmber, the West Sussex-based charity for people with ME, whose director Janice Kent said: “At last we have some clues about the cause of ME.

“Recent research indicates that people with this illness have a disordered immune system.

“However, NHS provision is patchy throughout the whole country.

“The Sussex-wide service based in Burgess Hill is better than most, and we fully support what they are trying to do, but they have an uphill struggle and there is a long waiting time.

“That’s where reMEmber comes in. We can quickly inform people all about the illness, how to manage it and what medicines can help.

“We cover all these things and more in our management course.”

The course will be held at Dove Lodge, Beach Road, for six Friday mornings, starting on November 11.

Patients aged 14 upwards, and their carers will be very welcome, Janice added.

Almost 500 people have attended the self-management courses.

“Most say that not only can they now manage their lives better – they actually feel better. The courses are run by people who understand in a friendly and un-pressurised environment,” said Janice.
