Mid Sussex Marathon 2023 in photos: runners take on challenges in Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead

The first event was at ​East Grinstead Rugby Club on Saturday, April 29. The Mid Sussex Fun Run was at 9.30am, followed by the Mid Sussex Mile at 10am and the 10 Mile Race is at 10.30am.

On Sunday, April 30, runners arrived at Victoria Park, Haywards Heath for another Mid Sussex Fun Run (9.30am), a Mid Sussex Mile (10am) and a 10 Mile Race (10.30am). On Bank Holiday Monday (May 1) Burgess Hill Academy (Playing Field) hosted a Mid Sussex Fun Run (9.30am), a Mid Sussex Mile (10am) and a 10k Race (10.30am).

The marathon had its largest number of entries this year. A spokesperson said: “So many amazing runners took part in the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend, we salute each and everyone of you.”

Simon Adby from AHS Wellbeing, organisers of the weekend, said: “This years Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend was a huge success, and we are delighted that over 1,000 runners took part across the three-day weekend. Due to the weather conditions the courses for the East Grinstead 10 Mile race and Burgess Hill 10K were challenging but our resilient participants stepped up and coped with mud exceptionally well.

“We are incredibly proud of our volunteers, those returning and new, and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for helping to make the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend such an incredible event. Special thanks goes to volunteers from; Saints Hill Scientologists, Kangaroos, Students from Ardingly College, Members of Friends of Ashenground and Bolnore woods, Burgess Hill Bonfire Society, and Burgess Hill Rotary.”

A spokesperson for Foxy Ladies Running Club said: “What a wonderful weekend, great organisation and fantastic marshals.”

Ben Short from Personify Fitness said: “We have decided to rename the marshals and volunteers to ‘Hype Crew’ as they were incredible all weekend.”

Simon from AHS Wellbeing added: “We are also very grateful for the support of our partners whom this event could not take place; Places Leisure, Mid Sussex District Council, the three town councils East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill, and this years sponsors Gatwick Airport, Nuffield Health and Hurst College, and Kangroos our charity partner.”
