Royal Baby Shower is a Horsham street party hat trick

The street has been cleaned, the road closed and the bunting put up in aid of this year’s Royal Baby Shower street party.

The event will be held on Sunday May 26 in Norfolk Terrace, Horsham, and surrounding roads.

Following the success of the last two street parties to celebrate the Royal Wedding and the Queen’s Jubilee, neighbours were keen to carry on the tradition.

Event organizer Victoria Duffield said: “We were hoping the Royal family would give us something else to celebrate this year and when William and Kate announced their baby was due, we were delighted.

“As well as being a great excuse for a party, the event also raises money for local charities and fosters a wonderful community spirit.”

The Royal Baby Shower, which will feature live music throughout the day, as well as a Grand Raffle and Skills Auction, will also be raising money for Emily’s Trust, a Horsham-based charity for young people affected by meningitis.

The trust was set up after Emily Darbyshire contracted meningitis.

She survived, but her illness left her with a severe brain injury.

With support, she has learnt to speak and write again and gone back to education.

Emily and her family now want to help other survivors.

Emily said: “I am so happy the Norfolk Terrace square community are supporting Emily’s Trust.

They will be making a much needed donation as well as raising the profile of the trust locally.”
