A-level students celebrate passes

Students across the county are celebrating after last week's bumper A level results.

More students than ever are achieving top grades and more going on to Oxbridge universities.

All colleges and sixth forms achieved well above the national overall pass rate of 96.2 per cent.

North of the county Burgess Hill School for Girls achieved an overall pass rate of 100 per cent. More than 93 per cent achieved Grade C or above. Eighty'“one per cent gained As and Bs and nearly 40 per cent of the group achieved three As.

At Hurstpierpoint College 44 per cent of students gained A grades with 65 per cent being awarded either As or Bs and a quarter of students gained three As or better.

Headteacher, Tim Manley said: "Today is the day that all these students have been working towards for two years. We, and they, are immensely proud of their achievement. Here at Hurst, we are acutely aware that the results of these exams reflect the enormous hard work put in by our students and our teaching staff."
