‘Action needed’ at Burgess Hill service

The Care Quality Commission inspected Swanborough Services in Burgess Hill in October.

A report release in November stated the care provider was not ‘protecting people from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were not maintained’.

The report also said people could not be sure they were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment ‘safely and to an appropriate standard’.

The report states: “We asked the manager who the service ensured that each member of staff had received appropriate training.

“The manager was unable to demonstrate that suitable arrangements were in place.”

At the time of the inspection, Swanborough Services was providing care to 45 people, 27 in the community and 18 in supported living. Inspectors spoke to administrators, care workers, six people who had received service and three relatives and found the service had improved its care and welfare of people who use the service and their care plans.

However, inspectors said there were inconsistent records of competency checks on staff and the ‘validity of previous training had not been verified’.

The report said: “We found that staff were not supported to deliver care safely and to an appropriate standard.”

However, relatives questioned said there had been improvements to the service and it has ‘changed for the better’.
