Alzheimer's Awareness Day

There was immediate public response to an Alzheimer's Society awareness day held outside Tesco at Ravenside this week.

Organiser Sarah Neighbour '“ who is befriending coordinator at the Alzheimer's Society local branch in St Leonards '“ said she was pleased by the reaction from shoppers at the retail park,

Sarah said: "Within the first half an hour, three families made contact with me that I have never met before '“ that is three families we now now are dealing with dementia.

"That is testament to the face these events are worth doing.

"One woman said she saw the word "Alzheimer's" and it just prompted her to make contact '“ it is easy to walk across the pathway rather than to go on the web or look through the phone directory to find the local office. People don't know about their local Alzheimer's Society, but we do have a local presence.

"Before I had even set up there was a woman who saw the board and was waiting until I came back. I will try to do this on a regular basis '“ with Tesco's support."
