Amanda's portrait of Her Majesty is fit for a Queen

A PORTRAIT of the Queen, which was a top 10 entry in a national newspaper competition and painted by a member of staff at East Sussex County Council, has been officially presented to the council.

The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Phyllida Stewart-Roberts, presented the chairman of the council, John Barnes, with the portrait at a ceremony.

The painting, by Amanda Bigden, was voted among the top 10 out of 10,000 entries in a competition held to mark the Queen's 80th birthday.

Amanda studied art in London and works in the community partnerships team at County Hall, Lewes.

Cllr Barnes said: 'I am thrilled to accept the portrait and all the more because the artist is one of our own staff.

'It is a striking likeness that will grace the walls of Westfield House in Lewes.'
