Clair Park, on Perrymount Road, is being monitored after complaints from residents led to a visit from pest control.

Trevor Butler was in Clair Park when he saw an ‘infestation of rats’.

“Most noticeably on the footpath parallel with Perrymount Road, just up from the cricket pavilion, on the hedge side,” he explained.

“ I have sighted three or four small, young rats feeding there on a couple of recent occasions. This obviously poses a general health risk and a particular threat to young children. “

Councillor Pru Moore, cabinet member for leisure and sustainability, said: “We were contacted recently by a resident who reported seeing rats in Clair Park, Haywards Heath.

“Our pest control officer went out on the same day to investigate. Action is now being taken to manage the situation and we will continue to monitor the park closely.”

This is not the first time rats have been sighted in a Haywards Heath park in recent months.

In August Mid Sussex District Council upped cleaning efforts in Victoria Park, Haywards Heath, after multiple rat sightings.
