Appeal to give youngsters break

Bosses of firms are being asked to give youngsters a break for a start in working life.

The Burgess Hill Business Parks Association is booked to talk to some of this year’s leavers at Oakmeeds Communty College in Burgess Hill about the possibility of starting work in local businesses.

It wants firms to consider taking a youngster on for a while.

It is asking firms to let it know if they would be prepared to consider taking a school leaver this coming summer, assuming the firm was happy that the youngster appeared to fit in with the firm’s employment needs.

The association says in a note to firms: “We would try to match up school leavers with company requirements and you would of course make the final decision about employment once you had interviewed the candidate.

“This does not commit you in any way to taking someone yet.

“We are simply trying to match up some school leavers with local companies.”
