Archery club welcomes people with disabilities

Archery is now one of the fast growing sports in the UK, and whether it’s because the first gold medal of the Paralympic Games was won by a British archer, the demand has never been higher.

The club’s two coaches, who have more years of experience teaching archery than they like to admit between them, provide invaluable guidance to the club members who range in age from ten to over 80.

The club’s co-ordinator, Bridget Dolan, told the Middy: “At Cuckfield Archers one of our club’s principle aims is to provide the opportunity for people with disabilities to take up archery and we are really pleased that almost a quarter of our membership consists of people with disabilities, including learning disabilities, physical disabilities and sensory impairments.

“As an inclusive and social club Cuckfield Archers is open to all – indeed archery is one of the few sports where the whole family can join in and whatever their ability can shoot and compete together.”

Experienced archers are always welcome at the club which shoots on Sunday afternoons at Warden Park School. For anyone interested in taking up archery Cuckfield Archers also run beginners’ courses throughout the year and there are still some spaces on their next course starting this Sunday on June 2.
