Arrests followingbrawl in Battle

TWO women were among those arrested after a violent brawl broke out in Battle High Street at 10am on Friday morning.

Five people were arrested and one man suffered injuries to his face when a dispute erupted between two groups who knew each other.

Battle police sergeant Paul Masterson said: “We are unaccustomed to dealing with incidents of violence like this in Battle very often.

“Despite the nature of this incident it is clear that it is a result of a family feud and at no time were members of the public at risk of being involved.

Police were on the scene quickly and were able to defuse the situation. We would like to thank all those members of the public who called us and those who provided photographic or statement evidence to support our ongoing investigation.

“Officers are now managing the situation locally to avoid a repeat of this confrontation.”

Two men - Anthony Adams, 21, and Eli King, 22, both of Netherfield, Battle - were subsequently charged with Section 18 wounding with intent and were due to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday May 25.

Three other people - a 31-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman and a 29-year-old woman - were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been released on police bail until July pending further police enquiries.

Sergeant Masterson said: “Elsewhere the area remains a low crime environment and we remind all residents to call us if they witness anything suspicious.”
