Better rail service on the cards

COMMUTERS from London to Lewes and Polegate could get home earlier if a new train service goes ahead.

At present the only direct service from London Bridge to Eastbourne, calling at Polegate, leaves at 5.46pm.

But plans have been drawn up to introduce trains leaving at 5.23pm and 6.23pm.

Chris Hudson, from Southern, said: 'At this stage, as consultation is still taking place, timings are pencilled in rather than set in stone.

MP Norman Baker said 'I have been contacted by many commuters who use the service from London Bridge and they have all expressed their desire to see an increased number of trains running during the evening.

'This also helps to iron out the present irregularity, which means that at present three trains arrive at London Bridge from the East Coastway in the morning, compared to only one leaving London Bridge in the evening.'

Once the changes have been confirmed the new train service will be up-and-running from December 2008.
