They all worked for insurance broker Bain Hogg, which was known as Bain Dawes in 1971 when it transferred from London to a prestigious administrative headquarters in Harlands Road.

The company was the town’s largest employer for a while and the office block was known as Bain Dawes House.

The reunion was organised by Peter Eggle, Paul Cole and Julian Purvey (pictured), who were delighted when 250 people came along, including staff who had been at the 1971 launch.

Julian said: “People travelled from all over the country to meet their old colleagues, including former head of office David Botsford , who now lives in Devon. He had so many happy memories that he had no hesitation in attending.

“There was a special atmosphere amongst the staff, which helped make Bain Hogg not only a highly professional but also a friendly place to work. Sadly, Bain Hogg was taken over by another company and the decision was made to close the office in 1997.”
