Biker and car collide closing the A27

A motorcyclist was left with suspected broken ribs and a back injury following a collision with a car.

The accident, on the A27 Pevensey by-pass, left the road closed for more than four hours on Monday night.

Sussex Police were alerted to the crash at 5.14pm, the scene one mile west of the Wallsend Road roundabout.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 43-year-old man from Eastbourne, had come off his bike after colliding with the car, driven by a man from East Grinstead.

The road was initially blocked but closed later for accident investigation work.

South East Coast Ambulance Service were called and sent an ambulance to the scene.

The biker was treated at the scene but the Sussex Police helicopter was asked to attend to transfer the man to the DGH.

Two children, a four-year-old girl and her two-year-old brother, were treated for cuts caused by flying glass after the windscreen shattered as a result of the impact.

The road was reopened at 9.30pm.
