Bognor Regis dippers will be first to celebrate diamond jubilee

New Year's Day dippers will be taking part in the first diamond jubilee event in Bognor Regis.

Dozens of individuals are expected to join in the celebration of the start of 2012.

Organisers at the town’s Lions club have called tomorrow’s occasion Her Majesty’s 60 Years, in honour of the Queen’s forthcoming diamond jubilee next June.

Those dippers who add to the fun by wearing fancy dress are likely to use the regal theme as the basis for their costumes.

The fancy dress competition will be held at 10.15am at Bognor Regis Yacht Club on the seafront off Victoria Road South. The dip will follow about 10.30am in front of the club.

Interest in the occasion has been strong again to repeat its recent success after a previous drop in numbers put the traditional event’s future in doubt.
