The Christmas Tree Festival at St. George’s Church starts today, Friday, December 7, and goes on until Sunday, December 9. The Festival opens with a Choir Concert at 7.30 pm this evening (admission £3.50 including light refreshments) and will be open to the public tomorrow, Saturday from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm and Sunday after morning service finishing with the Christingle Service at 3.00 pm. Admission to the Festival during opening hours is £1.00 (children 50p).

The Christmas tree outside the Church has been erected by Brede Church Bellringers and if you would like to donate £1.00 and dedicate a light in memory of a loved one or for a special occasion please put your name and dedication in an envelope and drop it in to Andrew Burchett, Alexandra Cottage, Stubb Lane, Brede, TN31 6EJ or give to any of the bellringers. You may also make donations at the Friday Farmers’ Market (on the apple stall) or at the Tree Festival on December 8 and 9. Proceeds from this are going towards the cost of the lighting required and also to the funds being raised to have the church clock restored to its full working order.

Brede Women’s Institute are holding their Christmas Party next Wednesday, December 12, at 2.00 pm in the Village Hall. This month’s competition will be for a party hat. There is no Friendly Circle meeting this month on the 13th as members are having their Christmas Dinner at Sedlescombe.

Carol Singing this year will take place on Monday, December 17, with the members of the Fire Station going around the Oakhill and Reedswood estates and they invite anyone to join them. They usually leave the station at around 6.30 pm. Carol singing will also be going on at the Red Lion from 8.00 pm on the same evening and at the King’s Head, Udimore from about 8.00 pm on Thursday, December 20.

Brede & Udimore Luncheon Club require a new cook to plan and prepare their monthly lunches from next January. Around 50 people normally attend and help is provided in the kitchen. Full details of the work and the payment made can be obtained from Aubrey White (01424-882762) or Anne Owne (01424-882025).

Reservations can be made for the Friends of St. George’s Quiz Evening on Saturday, January 19, at the Village Hall. Tables are up to eight people and the admission is £7.50 per person including fish and chip supper. Please contact Marion Firman on 01424-751165.

Tickets are on sale now for Brede Players’ production of “Robinsoin Crusoe” at the Village Hall on Friday and Saturday, January 11 and 12. Please contact Bobbie on 01424-882549 or Bruni on 01424-883548 or Broad Oak Bakery.

In one of the articles shown in the Brede Parish Council December Newsletter it was stated that Northiam Post Office was no longer trading. The Post Office at Northiam is in fact still open for business and Brede Parish Council wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The Mobile Library calls for the last time before Christmas next week on Tuesday, December 11, from 3.00 to 3.40 pm in Oakhill Drive and 3.50 to 4.25 pm in Reedswood Road. It will also be at the Village Hall on Thursday, December 13, from 1.25 to 1.55 pm. Apart from reading books, the Library has audio books as well as access to the internet and reference library. The next dates will be January 8 and 10 respectively.

Services at St. George’s Church during the coming week are the Family Eucharist at 9.30 am and the Christingle Service at 3.00 pm on Sunday, December 9, with Holy Communion on Wednesday, December 12, at 10.00 am and also Thursday, 13, and Friday, 14, at 9.00 am.

Trinity Methodist Church will be holding their regular Service on Sunday, December 9 at Broad Oak at the usual time of 10.30 am. The service will be conducted by Mrs.Christine Freeland. The Church’s Carol Service is being held on Sunday, December 16, at 3.00 pm (not 2nd as stated last week) and will be conducted by the Revd. Derek Brice and Mrs. Topsy Brice. All are invited to attend the service which will be followed by seasonal refreshments.
