Burwash

MEETING: The Burwash branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Monday evening at 8pm in Rose and Crown. You are all invited to attend and you do not have to be a member nor even have been in the armed forces, just have an interest in supporting the work that the British Legion do for the families of those who have been killed or injured in conflict serving their country.

CHRISTMAS: News is sparse this week so I will give you a few dates for your December diaries. There is a lot of fun going on in secret locations as the different clubs and societies make their decorations for the Christmas Tree Festival, which is being held in the church over the first weekend in December. This is always a delightful and beautiful event.

The late night shopping and Christmas festive evening will be held on December 2 and will include all the usual festive stalls at the Bear, Santa’s grotto at Cheriton and the lighting of the Christmas lights in the high street.

The Christmas bingo will be held in Burwash Village Hall on Sunday December 6 with lots of seasonal prizes to be won and fun for all the family. The fun will begin at 2pm. Proceeds will go to the Christmas Day lunch at the village hall for those who will be on their own. Bookings are already being taken for the lunch so if you know someone who will be alone tell them they will be very welcome to join in the fun.

The Catholic Church will be holding their annual Christmas bazaar on December 5 at the village hall. There are several lunches being held during December including the Get Together lunch on December 16, which is for the senior members of our community and is funded and organised by volunteers who also do a lot of the prepping serving and clearing of the meal.

The Brownies will also be doing their Christmas card delivery service which will take place on December 20. The boxes will be in the Stores and the Butchers from early December.

BOWLS: The Burwash Short Mat Bowls Club are looking to find new members to join this easy going club. The club will be 25 next spring and has had some great players through the doors. We play on Monday evenings from 6.30pm. Usually finishing soon after 9pm. Members play at their own desired level whether it be just in the club, at tournaments, in the league or for their county. Equipment can be borrowed and the members will show you how to play. This is a game for all ages, indeed Burwash at one time boasted the best junior club in the county. If you would like to join us please do come along one Monday evening or call the secretary Mary Taylor on 01435 882107 for more information.
