Cable fault sparks power cut

A fault in an underground cable at a nearby sub station is believed the cause of a five-hour power cut to some homes in Bognor Regis on Monday night.

Around 1,700 homes lost their power just before midnight with power restored soon afterwards to most properties. This was done by re-routing power from an alternative sub station.

But some 100 other homes in and around the Aldwick Road area were without power until 5 am the following morning.

A spokesman for Southern Electric said on Tuesday that investigations were continuing into the cause.
