Camber

This last weekend has been one of the busiest this year for the folk at Camber Church. Last Saturday was the annual Christmas Fair. A small but determined group of regulars worked hard all morning setting it up. There were people waiting for the doors to open at 2pm and from then on it was all go for the rest of the afternoon. Lots of hard work but good fun too, and some funds to swell the coffers of the church, always welcome. The next day there was a first, an Advent Praise service. The service was led by Rev Malcolm Pickering and the church choir took a leading role as the service was about 90% hymns, some congregational and some choir pieces. The choir were impressive, they regularly sang in 3 and 4 parts. This was possible because Jean Pickering the choir mistress worked with the little band of choristers tirelessly and with great patience. She even wrote a couple of harmonies to enhance the hymns. The result was frankly stunning! The amount of work put in by all was impressive, the result very gratifying. There were people at the service from churches in Rye, and just about everybody stayed afterwards for wine and mince pies. A great success all round with a special big congratulations’ to our church choir and Jean. This is a good time to remind you about the Christmas services. The Candlelight Carol Service will be at 6pm on 23rd December, there will be Midnight Communion at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve, and a Family Service with Communion at 10.30pm on Christmas Day. Remember Beer & Carols at the Camber Castle at 8pm on Thursday 13th.

Last Saturday also found many Camber girls in a state of real excitement as they put on their annual dance performance at Rye College. They were members off Emma Lou’s dance school. There were dozens of them ages ranging from about three years old to a small group of energetic Granny’s! They were all terrific and did a grand job of entertaining a packed auditorium of family and friends. It was a masterpiece of co ordination and effort from everyone involved. Emma Lou is to be congratulated too, it is no easy task teaching the routines and then on the night making sure that everyone is in the right place at the right time to go on stage and give it their all. Well done everyone, Camber can be proud of you all.

It is good to see our village Christmas tree standing resplendent on Jubilee Meadow. The lights are very bright ensuring you can’t miss it when they are switched on.

The Extend Exercise Group has now stopped meeting on Wednesdays in the Memorial Hall. They will re commence in the New Year.
