CHRISTMAS MARKET: Next Saturday, November 28, the Christmas Market will be held in the village hall to raise money for St Laurence’s Church from 10am to 2pm. The hall will be lined with decorated market stalls laden with good things to buy, there will be plants, cakes, books, fancy goods, bathroom stall, raffle and tombola as well as the ever-popular challenging games. Of course Father Christmas will be in his grotto with his attendants on hand to help and Christmas refreshments, tea and coffee will be available. Any donations of prizes will be gratefully received and items that could be sold on the stalls please. Entrance will be 50p and children free.

PANTOMIME: The famous annual event, the CADS pantomime is well underway and tickets are on sale in the Village Store priced £7 and £4 and selling fast. There is a new principal girl this year and Keith Robertson is directing all the traditional panto offerings. Performances take place on December 3, 4 and 5 in the village hall at 7.30pm and there’s a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Book now, it’s always a sell-out. The CADS have a Facebook page with photographs of rehearsals and all the information.

CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT: An evening of Carols by Candlelight by the Rother Community Choir will set the scene for Christmas at 7.30pm on December 11 at the Parish Church of St Laurence. Tickets will cost £6 each to include a light supper and are on sale in the Village Store or will also be available at the door.

SPORT: Rather reluctantly, the sports report contains news of an 8-0 defeat of our team by Hastings Rangers last week at Bulverhythe in the pouring rain. What a miserable occasion that must have been, perhaps Hastings Rangers didn’t mind. Tomorrow, hopefully, with a full team back in operation, we will have a more successful match against Bexhill Athletic at home in the next round of the Hastings Junior Cup.

PLANNING: The Planning application RR/2015/1418/P for the proposed building of 12 houses in Skinners Lane has been withdrawn, probably in the light of Rother’s recommendation to refuse the application. There were many reasons for their decision, mainly problems with surface water drainage, lack of connection to the main sewer, suitable access and lack of footpath in Skinners Lane itself. The other application affecting the village RR/2015/2260/P which includes the controversial north Bexhill access road is still to be decided.

THE VILLAGE HALL: We understand the Parish Council will be inviting applications for project grants from the solar park fund and the Village Hall Committee will be applying for a contribution towards the replacement of the main internal lights with LED lights, which should result in a considerable saving in electricity costs.

WI NEWS: In the last of their ventures celebrating 100 years of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes, Catsfield’s WI, which itself is 97 years old, is installing a planter of bulbs and plants at the entrance to the car park. We hope this will complement Elaine’s garden at the village hall and give enjoyment to everyone who sees it.
