Last Saturday’s coffee morning and plant sale held annually in the Village Hall to raise money for Christian Aid was the usual success, with people queuing outside before 10am waiting for the doors to open. The selection of plants for sale was considerable and it was hard to resist buying far more than necessary! There was also a cake stall and raffle. The grand sum raised amounted to £553 before deducting expenses, but also before donations in envelopes had been added. Well done to Libby for organising an enjoyable and eagerly awaited village event.

Further attention has been drawn to excess speeding and the lack of attention of drivers on their way through the village, especially at peak times on weekdays. There were two collisions on the same day between the shop and the zebra crossing last week causing major disruption and the call-out of fire, police and ambulance to deal with the consequences.

Our village sporting fixtures managed to evade the rain this week, resulting in a win for the mixed stoolball team against Civil Service. David Taylor’s cricket coaching session for the colts took place on the Playing Field with one girl and several boys taking part. David provided lots of kit and his sister Polly was there to oversee the admin part. Let’s hope this initiative continues to get lots of support. The adult cricket team had a most enjoyable match on Sunday against Hastings Wanderers in warm sunshine. The Wanderers were all out for 143 with Sanjay Sharma taking 3 for 36, Tony Taylor 3 for 39 and Tom Wisden 2 for 18. Connor Earl’s figures were 1 for 9 and he took 3 catches. David Taylor scored 24 runs with father Tony getting 21 and Andy Williams also batting well, resulting in a win by 2 wickets.

Saturday 25 May we are away to Parkhurst and Sunday 26th May we play Brightling Park at home, both starting at 2.30pm. Tuesday 28th May the ladies play stoolball away versus Pett and on the 30th the mixed team are away at Icklesham.
