Chichester and Bognor to be part of 2,700-mile coastal trail

Natural England wants to create a well-marked, 2,700-mile National Trail to give people the chance to enjoy some of the country’s most diverse, dynamic and stunning coastal landscapes while also boosting the local economy.

Drop in sessions will be held at: East Wittering Village Hall on March 15 (5pm-7.30pm); Pagham Village Hall on March 17 (5.45pm-8.15pm); Birdham Village Hall on March 18 (5pm-7.30pm); and Felpham Village Hall on April 11 (5pm-7.30pm).

Although in its very early stages, Natural England is working with partners and local authorities to look at a potential route from Highcliffe in Hampshire to Shoreham in West Sussex, covering 145 miles.

Tim Hall, Natural England’s senior advisor for coastal access in Hampshire, said: “We are at an early stage in planning the path locally and are very keen to talk to everyone with an interest including the public, landowners, businesses and local interests.

“We need the help of local people to ensure we get the route in the right place, and this will be vital.

“Our drop-in sessions, which are open to all, are the start of the process and we are looking forward to chatting to people and hearing their views on the England Coast Path in their area over the next few weeks. We would urge everyone with an interest to come along and join us.”
