Cleansing staff gain qualifications

More than 100 cleansing and collection staff working for Arun District Council's contractor have gained qualifications.

The street cleaners and refuse lorry workers have become the first in Verdant to be awarded an NVQ level two in waste management operations.

Their achievement was marked at a presentation ceremony held at the council's offices in which the 120 staff received their certificates. As well as the NVQ, they also completed a national working safely course.

The successful candidates represent around 10 per cent of Verdant's staff nationally who are taking part in the company's biggest skills and competency training programme.

The training programme helps raise health and safety awareness and standards, improves efficiency and productivity, and gives manual staff a recognised vocational certificate.
