Last year, Sue Noye, 48, raised £25,000 for Age UK Horsham District, a local charity based at Livinia House, Dukes Square, Horsham.

But she said that winning the award was testament to the success of the Age UK team.

She said: “Mostly I felt that everything we do is a team effort, so I felt it shouldn’t just be me getting the award, it should be all of us.

“There was such a lovely feeling in that building that evening and I’m sure everybody in there felt the same.

“It was a very warm feeling and a very positive experience.”

Sue works as a hairdresser in Age UK, and admitted she was initially shocked to be nominated for an award.

She said: “It was quite a humbling experience. When you are in there it makes you think about all the good things that go on in Horsham and there is a really nice community feeling - there is such a lot of good going on in the Horsham district.

“It is nice to know that people recognise the hard work that fundraising is. So many people appreciate what we have been doing.”

The fundraiser and volunteer has a simple message to those thinking about nominating someone for a Community Award this year - ‘go ahead and do it’.

She added: “The thing with helping in any way is it is always positive, no matter how little or how much you do, and everybody who volunteers always feels better.

“I think you end up getting even more than you’re giving in terms of happiness.”
