COMMUNITY STARS: Adur ladies club success and nomination

LAST season, Adur Athletic Ladies Football Club won the treble '“ taking the league and two cup titles.

And it was their spectacular success and good team spirit that prompted Kim Brown to nominate them in the sports team of the year category at the 2009 Herald/Gazette Community Stars Awards.

The team won the West Sussex League, the County Cup and the Challenge Cup, in what was the first season many of the women had played together.

Kim, whose daughter Lauren Woodward is in the team, said: "They are absolutely amazing.

"Most of the girls are just 17 or 18, and they're often playing against more experienced women in their 30s, so it's a brilliant achievement.

"They are a really good bunch of girls who have worked really hard."

Kim, 42, said 17-year-old Lauren and her team-mates have often had difficulty finding places to train, but always maintain a positive attitude.

They currently practise at Middle Road in Shoreham, but it is likely they will have to find a new training ground for next season.

Many of the girls go to Worthing College, while others attend university.
