Despite a membership of 1,400 the club is not generating enough cash to pay bills and the bank will not extend its overdraft.

Chairman John Davies said the worst case scenario would mean the club being forced to give up its Crouch Lane premises and moving to somewhere smaller.

'We would have to look for a smaller property, which is a shame because we have such a lovely function area and bar it is the biggest place you can have for a wedding reception in the town.

At a special general meeting 150 members gathered to discuss the club s future.

Mr Davies said: ' Members spoke passionately to the meeting, requesting support for the club.

It was agreed that each member should contribute a minimum 10 'interest free loan to keep the club afloat or for members to receive free membership for a 500 donation.

Tongue in cheek suggestions of topless bar staff, free vodka and that all gents should be clad only in a strippergram-style dickey bow tie were received to riotous applause but not adopted.

Mr Davies added: 'My message to members is support your club, pay your membership early, and pay the 10 loan.

People who would like to make a donation to the club can call Mr Davies on 01323 890087.
