Councillor standing down in the next elections

CONSERVATIVE Michael Ensor, a Rother district councillor for Bexhill Central for the past four years, has said he will not be standing for re-election in May.

He told the Observer his party’s selection panel had felt it would be more appropriate for him to concentrate on his duties as an East Sussex County Councillor, representing Bexhill’s King Offa Division.

Cllr Ensor (pictured), of Cranston Rise, said that had he stood again for Rother he “was considering putting my name forward as leader”, a position currently held by Brede Valley representative and fellow county councillor, Carl Maynard.

Cllr Ensor, chairman of Rother’s audit committee but not a member of its Cabinet, said: “I have only discussed this with council colleagues and will be issuing a formal statement in the next few days.”

He was elected to East Sussex County Council following the death three years ago of Ron Dyason. His roles include being chairman of the Children’s Services Scrutiny Committee, and and a member of the Education Standards Panel and Audit and Best Value Scrutiny Committee.
